About Us

We, Jim & Cindy McDermott, owners of SALT Christian Press, live in Southwest Missouri. We have been married 25 years and God has blessed us with 13 children, a daughter-in-law, two grandsons and a niece. We have 8 daughters and 5 sons. Our oldest is 24-years-old and our youngest is eight months. Eleven years ago we started a publication called SALT magazine, because we had a passion for the practical issues of Christian living many churches find too controversial or too mundane to address. What issues are those?

  1. Birth Control: Did you know that many forms of birth control cause the baby to die shortly after conception? If we believe children are a blessing and that God will provide for the children he gives us, why do we try so hard not to have them?
  2. Courtship and Dating: Paul told Timothy to treat the younger women like sisters with absolute purity. Did your dating practices reflect this principle? Do your children’s? Could there be a better way?
  3. Education: Why do most Christians send their young children away for most of the day? Could it be that having our children spend most of their time with the children of unbelievers in a setting where even the mention of God (except as a curse word) is considered controversial and divisive is spiritually dangerous?
  4. Christian Family: Do men and women have equal authority in the family, or does God appoint men to headship? We think the Scriptures are clear on this point, but even in Christian homes the men won’t lead and the women won’t submit.
  5. Children: Which is more important: passing on our faith to our children and teaching them how to live the Christian life or helping them to be “successful.” If our children don’t read the Scriptures and there is no family teaching, what does that say about our priorities?
  6. Household Management: A clean and organized house is a blessing, but an atheist can have a clean and organized house. Are we cleaning and organizing for our pleasure, convenience, and glory, or so we can accomplish more for God’s kingdom?

Interest in SALT has slowly increased. Our subscribers are scattered all over the country. We have hundreds of hits/day on our website (www.saltmagazine.com) where a number of articles have been posted. Requests for free issues of SALT have come from all over the world. 1/4 of the free issue requests the last four months have come unsolicited from overseas – the majority from countries you would least expect. It is humbling to know that every day people from all over the world are being reached with the message.

  • About the Publishers:
  • Jim is an eccentric man, but he is handsome, charming, and very humble. He has a BA in theology and an MA in public policy. He has taught school, been a signals analyst in the army, and managed restaurants. Jim has also had his past failures, including an Amway business, a Christian newspaper, and a political party. But he always has reason to be happy because he is forgiven and because he is married to the most wonderful Proverbs 31 girl on the planet.
  • Cindy has amazing patience and good humor to have lived with Jim for all those years. She has been a Registered Nurse for some time, but she is striving hard to achieve her ultimate career goal: full time wife and mom.

We hope SALT may be a blessing to you and yours.
