“Hi! We are Jim and Cindy McDermott. We have homeschooled as many as 7 children at one time – with 3 little ones and one commuting college student also living at home with us. Although Cindy has always aspired to being a full time mom, Cindy and I have both been working full time for quite some time. Can you imagine homeschooling 7 children with both parents working full-time and a total of 11 children living at home? In spite of our challenges, our oldest was able to start college at 16 and he just graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science at age 19. Our second child is in college right now and is doing very well, indeed. Had we taken our traditional schooling methods and brought them home, there would not have been enough hours in a day to educate our children. But God was gracious to us and we were able to give all our children a decent education with less than ideal circumstances.
“We are certainly not experts in homeschool curricula, but do have a lot of experience homeschooling efficiently, homeschooling multiple children, sharing homeschooling responsibilities, homeschooling with 2 working parents, homeschooling through high school, homeschooling with babies and toddlers around, organizing the household to make time for homeschooling, and teaching older siblings to help the younger ones.
“We also love to talk about raising a Christian family, marriage, raising children, household management, child discipline, and courtship. Speaking of courtship, our oldest is getting married March 25 and neither he nor his betrothed have ever had a date.
“We like to tell our story, explain our homeschooling experience, and share some of our insights on the Christian family, but we would certainly tailor our message to the needs of your group.”
We charge nothing to speak! Of course, voluntary gifts to cover our expenses are appreciated and we do ask that you allow us to make our magazine and books available to interested persons.
